Edible Chews: Antlers for Dogs

Antlers for dogs – from deer, elk and moose – grow and shed naturally every year. After breeding season they simply fall off. There is no pain or harm involved. Isn’t that nice?

Unlike other chews, they don’t smell or stain. They wear down gradually and should, like all chews, be thrown away when they threaten to become small enough to swallow (which usually takes weeks or months).

With dog chews you balance between how long they last, how soft they are and how safe. The softer chews don’t last long but pose no real risk of dental problems. They can cause digestive “events” in some dogs. The harder chews last much longer but a few dogs will chew so hard they could harm a tooth. Such chews rarely cause digestive issues.

So, it’s your choice. Pip gnaws on every sort of dog chew. For me, it’s a quality of life issue. She enjoys antlers for dogs so I give them to her. Here are a few of the many sorts of antlers available on Amazon.

Many people have commented that their dogs prefer split antlers, you’ll find the popular options here.

  1. Holly likes these, they don’t stink up the living room and they seem to last a long time, so I am definitely a fan…

  2. A chew that is Akita-proof (well, as best an edible can be). Finally.
